STEEL PRODUCTS - BASIC CLASSIFICATION

Steel products are products without which today we cannot imagine building houses and utility facilities, vehicles, appliances, installations and pipelines. They are the basis for the construction, foundations and finishing of buildings. Companies offering steel products provide high-quality elements that facilitate construction works and guarantee high quality and safety of the erected structures. What kind of steel products do we distinguish?

Cold or hot rolled flat steel products

Rolled products have the largest share in steel products. They are an important element of many building structures. Hot-rolled sheets include sheets that in some cases – though not always – can be used for further processing, e.g. coiled sheets, which are used for the production of metal roof tiles (coated sheet) or machine parts (housing). Depending on the species, they can be resistant to mechanical damage and the adverse effects of changing weather conditions. It is also thick (over 5 mm), thin (up to 5 mm) and very thin (parts of a millimeter), which are finishing and construction elements of equipment, machines and devices. Corrugated and trapezoidal sheets allow for obtaining an interesting finishing effect, e.g. in metal garages or warehouses. Cold rolled sheets are used in the automotive and electrotechnical industries because they are much more durable. They can be sanded or polished for a more interesting effect. Depending on the grade of cold-rolled sheet, they can be resistant to stretching and other mechanical damage. They are used for the production of, among other things, car bodies. Flat steel products also include galvanized sheets, which are more resistant to weather conditions.

Long products and sections

The second popular group of steel products are the so-called long products, which can be, for example, welded and seamless steel pipes. They are needed for installations carrying liquids or gases, and are an important element of machinery and equipment as well as building structures. Long elements are also grates, wire rods and bars of various sections, e.g. square, round or ribbed, which form the basis of foundations, reinforcements or other building structures. Sections, the names of which depend on the shape of the element, are also important steel products. We distinguish among others: channels, tees, I-sections, angles. We find them in gates, fences, scaffolding, railway components and construction, agricultural and other machines. High-quality steel elements such as handles, wipers, steps, Hamburg knees allow for the finishing of the structure or installation and guarantee its reliability.
